Getting around Paris is easy. As well as being well served by an efficient and comprehensive public transport system, the city itself is reasonably compact in scale, so walking leisurely to see the principal popular sights is a great way to explore. Otherwise, the choice is between Metro and RER train network, bus or city cab.

Metro
The Paris Metro is fast, frequent and virtually covers anywhere you would like to go in the city. It has 15 lines and 294 stations. Discount tickets such as Paris Visite are ideal for visitors as it allows combined travel between the different modes of public transport. Also offering good value and simplicity of use is a Carnet which is a pre-purchased book of ten tickets.

RER
This train network serves suburban areas outside Paris as well as areas within the city. The RER is integrated with the Metro and it is the service you will use for travel between the city and the airports as well for visits to Versailles.

Buses
Paris is very well served by bus with over 55 routes covering all the main areas of the city. Buses run from early morning until about 8.30 pm when a night bus service called the Noctambus runs through until morning. Taxis
Paris taxis are readily available at their stands near metro stations and road intersections. Drivers usually speak very little English and are generally cold mannered. Usually, they will not stop for street pick-ups even if they are available for hire. Paris cabs are reasonably priced, but some supplemental charges can apply for baggage or for travel into the suburbs. They will normally only take 3 passengers and will charge extra for a fourth.
